Woods Hero World Challenge

The Woods Hero World Challenge tournament began in the millennium and was formed to benefit the Woods family TGR Foundation. The Hero World Challenge will see the host and five-time event winner complete an invitational tournament that features top golfing royalty, including Viktor Hovland (3rd in the ranking), Max Homa (7th), Matt Fitzpatrick (8th), and world ranking No. 1 Scottie Scheffler.

The exemptions are Justin Rose and Lucas Glover, with American three-piece Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler, and Justin Thomas taking the slack.

Woods the Bag and Caddy Man

Focusing on recovery from the severe leg injuries sustained in a 2021 car accident, Woods tried to prioritize his game by skipping THREE  flagship events after the disappointment at the Masters. While disappointment may have marked Woods’ card, he has not forgotten his parenting duty. He appears at various points to caddy/mentor his son Charlie at several junior golf events.

Taking his duties seriously, Woods played the part of an overqualified bag man as Charlie won the Orlando Junior National Golf Championship qualifier in September. Taking up a mentoring role, Woods helped Charlie and the Benjamin School boys’ team steal the Florida High School state championship this month.

Woods Plays Indoor Golf

You could confuse indoor golf with crazy golf (we did for a moment), but rest assured, they’re not the same thing. In the early part of 2024, Woods will play in The TGL (a tech-inspired golf league), a live indoor golf tournament held in partnership with the PGA Tour created by TMRW Sports (pronounced ‘tomorrow’); this unique TV venture has impressive ownership, namely Woods, Rory McIlroy, and Mike McCarley.

Various media outlets, including CNN, announced that the golfing dream team is not the only investor; Myles B. O’Neal (basketball), Kevin Durant, Dwyane Wade, and Rich Kleiman (sports agent) are investors in TMRW Sports.

The channel will air all sports (lots of basketball), which makes sense as a channel dedicated to golf would not only be boring (NBC Golf) but would see Tiger tee time more often than is necessary or most could stand.

What Next for Tiger Woods?

There has always been a massive amount of speculation about Woods; his life is not his own in many ways – back in April this year, he said (adapted for plagiarism purposes), “The deal is this: I told the media last year, I’m not going to more than the majors – probably. That’s it; that’s all my body will give me. My back, with all the surgeries, my leg the way it is, I just can’t. That’s going to be my future. So, my intention last year was to play in all FOUR majors; I managed three of the four. Hopefully, this year (2023), I can play all four and maybe add a few here and there. Likely, that’s it for the rest of my career. I know it, and I understand it. That’s my reality right now.”

Things change, and we know that if Woods could play the Tour Championship, he would; golf is his life. The good news for Woods is that he will never get bored (or left alone, for that matter), and if you were in Tiger Woods golf shoes (or had his bank balance), you would be more relaxed, too.

Tiger Woods Masters: the Highs and Lows

Woods is a player who attracts lots of attention; his life is not his own from his famous entry into golf in 1995 at just 19 (trying to become the only amateur to cut)—turning pro at age 20 to become an immediate media star.

In 1997, Woods paired with Nick Faldo to set a Masters record (18 under par). Woods successfully defended his US PGA Champ title in the late summer of 2000 to gain victory with the named Tiger Woods Masters Slam at the 2001 Masters.

Dubbed the Tiger Slam because Woods is the only player to hold all four major golfing titles at once, 2001 was a victorious year. Seven years later, in 2008, Woods won his opening four-season events, but only after dealing with the sadness of losing his father, Earl, to a heart attack in 2006.

Sadly, Woods’ achievements gave way to darker moments in 2009 when accusations of infidelity tarnished his reputation. Our favorite golfer revealed he had undergone just over a month of inpatient therapy before admitting to an affair (with Rachel Uchitel); Elin Nordegren and Woods divorced a year later.

The turmoil took its toll on his game, and for the first time in his professional career, Woods did not win a single 2010 tournament.

2013 saw a turning point, and luckily for Woods and his almost-disappearing career, he won 5 times to become the worldwide number 1. Yes, 2013 was a good year for golf.

Woods may have been winning, but he suffered problems with his body that forced him to withdraw from events, and those he played were torture if his facial expressions were anything to go by.

It seemed the golfer’s career was over when he told his friend, Jack Nicklaus, “I’m finished,” but soon after that statement, Woods underwent spinal fusion surgery, which proved successful (hooray).

Things should have been on the up and up for Woods; however, he hit another personal low in 2017 when he was arrested for driving under the influence. After pleading guilty to reckless driving (asleep at the wheel with FIVE prescription drugs in his system), Woods spent 11 months on probation.

Two years later, in 2019, Woods won his 15th major title and FIFTH green jacket in the 83rd Masters- this is one of the greatest sporting comebacks ever! The car crash in 2021 and Woods’ surgery and ongoing recovery take us up to date – but hang on to your hat because, knowing Woods, things can and do change.

In Conclusion

The life and times of Tiger Woods Masters are well documented; this famous golfer can’t make a move without a reporter spilling the beans; some say he brings the game in disrepute, tampon or not (read about the shenanigans here). The Tiger Woods Masters entertainment section brings light relief to a game that otherwise could appear nothing more than balls and sticks.

Talking about balls and sticks, take a look at our best golf clubs for beginners and the low down on the balls – shall we give Woods a break? Nope, where’s the fun in that?
