Scottie Scheffler repeats at WM Phoenix Open, reclaims world No. 1

At the WM Phoenix Open, Scottie Scheffler navigated tricky winds to hit just five of 14 fairways in the second consecutive round, but he still led in approaches and scrambling. Bogeys were few and far between, ending with only two total for the week; he clinched his second title with a final-round 65 (19 under par).

Nick Taylor was the runner-up, two strokes behind, and Jon Rahm came in third, five strokes back.

Justin Thomas placed fourth, six strokes behind the leader, with a Sunday score of 65.

Scheffler regains the number-one ranking in the Official World Golf Ranking from Rory McIlroy (T32).

“I hit some wild shots off the tee that were pretty uncharacteristic for how I usually shape the ball. I was just able to grind it out, make a lot of putts,” said Scheffler

“It was a lot more stressful this year playing with Jon Rahm, who went to school here and knows the desert very well,” said caddie Scott. “And then Nick Taylor lives out here and it seemed like he knew every shot, every putt. Also, there were expectations this year, where last year I think we were on 14, like, hey, if we make some birdies, we might have a chance.”

Titleist T200 Irons Review

Clint McCormick of golfspan.com gave his professional opinion on the Titleist T200 irons.

Titleists, like other golf companies, offer products tailored for specific types of players. Depending on your handicap preferred shot pattern, and typical miss, you can get a set that meets your requirements.

The Titleist T200 irons, dubbed “players distance irons” by McCormick, are designed to give famous golfers the perfect blend of forgiveness and control over their shots.

Mid-handicappers who have control of their swing but don’t mind sacrificing some feel to gain further distance and accuracy will benefit from this.

Below are McCormick’s main pros and cons:

Pros

  • Compact head design
  • Added tungsten weight in heel and toe
  • Progressive offsetting
  • Signature Titleist clean look
  • The forged face wraps around the sole for added ball speed
  • Incredibly satisfying sound

Cons

    • Larger topline
    • Priced higher than many other iron sets
    • A shiny finish may cause glare
