RSM Classic Recap 2022: A Look Back at an Exciting Tournament

The winner of the 2022 RSM Classic was Adam Svensson from Sweden. He was playing for the win, which would be his 70th start, but with a score of 19 under, he came out on top. That is despite not having much luck at this tournament in recent years RSM Classic. Svensson has missed the cutoff in each of his last few appearances here.

Other notable performers at the event included young star Sahith Theegala and veteran Brian Harman. Theegala had a chance to win his first PGA tournament if he hadn’t made a costly double bogey on the front nine. He played quite well during the whole tournament, finishing with a score of 66. Harman shot a final round 65. Harman, Theegala, and Callum Tarren finished in a tie for 2nd place.

The next PGA Tour event takes place in January 2023 where we will see the Sentry Tournament of Champions. Since he left for the LIV golf tour, the defending champion of this event, Cameron Smith, has not been able to protect his title. The field will be one of the strongest of the year so far. The Sentry Tournament features all of the winners of the various PGA Tour events of the 2022 season.

Adam Svensson Press Conference

Q. (No microphone) posting 17 under, late in the run you had Brian and Sahith bearing down on you. Can you talk about the birdies on 16 and 17 that helped pull you over the line?

ADAM SVENSSON: Yeah, I looked on the PGA leaderboard on 15, the par 5 there, and hit a poor wedge shot and made par. But I knew there were a couple of good birdie chances on 16 and 17 with a front flag. And the shot on 16, it kind of spun back but it was kind of an easy putt uphill left to right and I just knew I hit it hard enough and it went in. And the one on 17, I didn’t think it was going to go in and somehow it just dove in, I don’t know.

Q. You’ve kind of addressed this after the first round, but was there any frustration at all thinking that — because you started on the Plantation course, it’s the easier of the two courses, what was your mindset?

ADAM SVENSSON: Yeah, I was very frustrated. I just knew that I just kept doing what I was doing. I flushed it on Thursday and I just got nothing out of my round, and going into Friday I just was grinding. I don’t even know, I just was putting great, hitting it great and I just kept hitting the fairway, hitting it on the green, and just kept doing what I was doing. I don’t really know. I just knew if I just kept playing great, good things would happen. Last week I found something in my golf swing and just kind of took it into this week. Yeah, I mean, that’s pretty much it, that’s it.
