Rory McIlroy triumphed at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, beating Patrick Reed by one shot

McIlroy ended the day with a 4-under 68, clinching his third championship and first-ever victory to open a season, one stroke ahead of Reed’s 65 that fueled a final-day rally.

Another debacle occurred with Patrick Reed when his golf ball lodged itself in a tree.

Tournament officials concluded that on Sunday, former Masters champion Patrick Reed did not violate any rules despite being subject to another rules controversy. Reed’s tee shot on the 17th hole during the third round of the Dubai Desert Classic got stuck in a palm tree.

Nelly Korda has achieved the top spot in the U.S. Solheim Cup rankings.

At the Tournament of Champions, Nelly Korda could not outplay Brooke Henderson, but by earning a fourth-place finish, she was able to hold the highest Solheim Cup qualifying ranking for the United States.
Brooke Henderson won the LPGA’s season-opening Tournament of Champions in Orlando, Fla. on Sunday with a wire-to-wire performance of two shots under par (70) in the final round.
